CONCLUSION

Tenure is not an effective solution to prevent teachers and educators from being unprofessionally  fired, and it can also hinder the delivery of quality education to students. In fact, there was much research done to support the ineffectiveness of tenure being an effective solution. Perhaps  adjuncts should be encouraged to solve the problem of a poor delivery system and unprotected educators.

Ben Carson

Claim #3: The refugees were involved in the attacks in Paris; therefore they’ll plan other attacks. How can we criticize this claim? What are possible weaknesses here?  It is interesting to note that Ben Carson’s claim is baseless because history has it that most terrorist attacks that happened in the United States were either committed by U.S. born citizens or people from other countries who come here through other means. There are a few number of  terrorist attacks that were caused by Muslim refuges.  Friedman (2017) reports that ” Over the last four decades, 20 out of 3.25 million refugees welcomed to the United States have been convicted of attempting or committing terrorism on U.S. soil, and only three Americans have been killed in attacks committed by refugees—all by Cuban refugees in the 1970s”,  as cited by Nowrasteh. Ben Carson’s claim  is not based on any evidence, and has no credibility. Throughout his article he has not cited any sample to back his claims. Ben was merely pointing out his personal viewpoint. Friedman (2017) writes , according to Nowrasteh “Between 1975 and 2015, the “annual chance of being murdered by somebody other than a foreign-born terrorist was 252.9 times greater than the chance of dying in a terrorist attack committed by a foreign-born terrorist” .  Muslim refuges that comes to U.S. are low abiding individuals, hard working, loving and caring. There are so many people who hide behind Islam with their hidden agenda and commit crimes in the name of Jihad. Further more Ben has not presented any evidence to substantiate his claims, his claim is weak.

Drug addiction among veterans is a growing concern in the United States of America. This is true because veterans are increasingly getting more addicted to prescription drugs. Veterans have have unlimited access to painkillers through prescriptions, and they are not monitored in administering these drugs leading to addiction. Veterans and doctors are trying to find another method of treating chronic pain instead of prescription opioid painkillers.

A lot of veterans are addicted to prescription drugs and that is a major concern among many veterans. Doctors and medics treat troops with prescription opiates for the management pains sustained during wartime. Mike said “The troops, if they got hurt they ‘d just shove you with a bag of pills, you never got a bottle and new what was in it; you got a baggie” (as cited in Lawrence,(2014). The bag of pills are prescription painkillers that are available  and taken at any time they desire leading to drug dependency and eventually get addicted.

DRUGS

Easy access to painkillers and heroin encourage drug addiction and overdose, leading to a lot of overdose deaths in 2015. According to reports from  Marblehead (2017), “Public health officials have called the current opioid epidermic the worst drug crisis in American history, killing more than 33,000 people in 2015” (p . 1). The number of overdose death is alarming and will increase,  and this is supported by Wooddruff.  Woodruff (2016), also reports that about 300 people died of drug overdose, and the number of drug overdose death might increase in 2016. Both articles report that easy availability of cheap drugs like heroin and fentanyl has contributed to many overdose deaths.

The increase in overdose death was a course for concern for the public health officials, and they are searching for a way to contain the epidemic. According to Woodruff (2016 p. 1), ” Today, presidential candidates and state political leaders gathered for a forum to tackle addiction and the growing heroin crisis”. AMERICA IS IN THE MIDDLE OF ITS WORST DRUG EPIDEMIC EVER. OBAMACARE’S REPEAL COULD MAKE IT WORSE.

In German Lopez’s article “America is in the Middle of its Worst Drug Epidemic ever. Obamacare’s Repeal could make it Worse,” he reports that America is facing  terrible drug crisis, and Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare)  provides health insurance for many people both for their annual medical checkups and day-to-day drug abuse treatment. Lopez also reports that Donald Trump and the Republican Congress wants to repeal the Obamacare, and this will result to about twenty-two million people uninsured including those with drug abuse treatment.

Some people legally obtain drugs like opioid painkillers and synthetic opioids  through prescriptions and become addicted, and that caused the increase in the opioid abuse and deaths. Realizing the effects of the painkillers, doctors were warned not to prescribe such drugs unnecessarily. Those addicted and could not have access to painkillers through prescriptions or can no longer afford them turned to cheaper more potent opioids; heroin and fentanyl that are produced illegally for non-medical use. According to Lopez, “a 2014 study in JAMA Psychiatry found many painkiller users were moving on to heroin, and a 2015 analysis by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that people who are addicted to prescription painkillers are 40 times more likely to be addicted to heroin”,and these people are supported by the Obamacare.

Federal and state officials have to find a solution and Obamacare came to play a leading role letting access to care for millions of Americans. If the Obamacare is repealed many people might be left without adequate health care. Donald Trump and the Republican Congress are trying to repeal the Obamacare and that will leave millions of Americans without health insurance. The Republican dominated Congress  have not yet come up with any plan to fill the cap.  Lopez further reports that the Republican replacement plan may not have adequate coverage for both annual medical checkups and treatment of drug use disorder. Therefore, if the Republicans repeal the Obamacare without replacing it with a proper health insurance, about 22 million Americans  will be left uninsured.

George Orwell Why I Write

In George Orwell’s article “Why I Write,” he explains how he became a writer. Being lonely at home sometimes, helped him to think of stories that motivated him to realize how he can use words to write. He plagiarized his fist poem, and later wrote a patriotic poem at the age of eleven. He continued to write, though incomplete short stories. At the age of sixteen he became interested in the sounds and association of words and that encourages him on what kinds of novels to write. He continues to enjoy using words to describe things then he wrote his first book.  He explains the four great motives of writing, and says that every writer views these four great motives differently depending on the atmosphere in which the writer is living. Orwell also reflects on his job in Burma that made him to understand the nature of imperialism, but was not enough to get him the political  experience he needs. He wrote a poem to express his feelings. The events  in 1936-37 made him understand and focus on what he wants to write about; “to make political writing into an art”. He intends to focus on writing about facts and that requires a personal experience; and that is why his book on Spanish civil war had a lot of newspaper quotations.

Empathy

Writing and empathy are similar in such a way that they both lead you to a situation in which you connect your thoughts, sensations, and emotions to someone’s, in order to understand the person’s feelings. Both writing and empathy enable us to experience and feel part of the whole. In writing and empathy, we leave ourselves and enter another, to put words to their thoughts, sensations, and emotions. They both put us in a position where we reason, share, and adopt the perspective and the emotional state of another person.
