Conclusion of Tenure

Making it hard to fire teachers is what tenures was suppose to do. Instead tenure had made the system too rigid causing colleges to fail in modernization and ability to hire more qualified professors. In fact a lot of studies for tenure comes from an Association that benefits from tenure. The studies can be seen as not credible since it comes from a bias source. Perhaps we should be investigating the benefits of adjunct professors and how they benefit the educational system.

Gentrification

In the article “What is Gentrification, Really?” the author goes in a more depth study on the word then most would. He first gives the definition we are all familiar with. He then goes to tell us the origins of the word and it how it was modified as time passed.  The author states “The term agentlea here implies what we might expect: freedom from conflict and hardship, from the rigors of the aworking lifea”. This quote is to clarify what he sees what the word gentrification means; that gentrification is a change to an ease, elegance and novelty, a gentle existence.

The article has a lot of format issues.

Thesis statement

according to the articles Veterans Face “Greater Risks Amid Opioid Crisis”(2016) and “A Growing Number Of Veterans Struggles To Quit Powerful Painkillers”(2014)  it is argued that there is an opioid epidemic and a lot of the victims are veterans. These articles are saying that veterans have a high chance for addiction to opioids because they are more vulnerable to pain and injury and they usually have to be treat fast so they can get back to the fight. I believe this to be true specially during times of war, doctors want their soldier to quickly go back to the fight and they don’t have time to give full treatments that takes a long time to heal or fix the problem so they instead just give a painkiller and back to the field the soldier go.

The number of veterans that have opioid addiction keep to grow over the years as the war  continued. In the articles by Quil Lawrence(2014) points out “During wartime, doctors and medics need to trear troops for pain, and often use prescription opiates to solve that problem.”

Ps: I put that quote but I haven’t really worked around it.

Blog Writing Summary #2

Chasing The Scream by Johann Hari argues that addiction is not only due to chemicals. Johann tells about an experiment done by professor Bruce. Bruce’s lab rats experiments tells us that rats with good social and fun lives would never choose to take heroin and the rats that had bad lives would always take the drug. But not only that once the rats with bad lives were changed to a better environment where their lives were good they immediately stopped taking the drug. Johann tells us about bruce’s finding because it explains that that addiction is not only based on chemicals but also a major part in the environment that the person is in. This is not the only observations that points this to be true.

Another observation made by Bruce that argues addiction is not the only reason for addiction but environment is a major reason. Bruce tells us of what happened during and after the Vietnam war. During the war an extremely large amount of U.S soldiers were using heroin to cope with their horrible lives they had during the war. After the war something happened that a lot of people did not see it coming, 95% of soldiers that were using heroin simply stopped because their lives were now good and calm compared to when they were in war. Bruce informed us of this event because it was basically his rat experiment but in human scale and the results found in this event goes hand to hand with the findings of bruce’s rat experiment.

P.S: I didn’t notice that my Post didn’t wasn’t publish on the due date and I had not notice until I notice today in class when I went to the site. Hopefully you still give me some credit

Introduction

3 ways to speak English by Jamilia Lyiscott reports why a lady called her “articulate”. Lyiscott offers this example ” So I may not always come before you with excellency of speech but do not judge me by my language and assume that I’m too ignorant to teach ’cause I speak three tongues One for each: home, school and friends”. Lyiscott says that when she speaks “broken” English that doesn’t make her too ignorant to teach but instead it shows that she can speak three tongues; One for home, school and friends. Even when she is being questioned by talking in “broken English” she responds that she can actually speak “broken English” with friends or she can speak proper English in school and also talk in Jamaican-English with others. Lyiscott is saying that she can speak in these tongues, this just shows you how “articulate” she can be in different kinds of situations. It is not just her capabilities of speaking three tongues that makes her “articulate”

Empathy

Daniel Fornari

Empathy is the ability to understand and share feelings with another person. Writing is the activity of putting words in a coherent way in which readers can understand. Writing and empathy are similar in the way that they are tools for communication and understanding each and every person. When a writer, writes about something he or she writes in a way that creates empathy to the subject so there can be a better connection with the reader and the subject. This is the true value of empathy,  it creates a feeling a connection and understanding between the writer and the reader.
