In the article “Taking a Battle Over Gentrification to a Wall in the Bronx” by David Gonzalez (Nov. 30, 2015) he tells me how the low class are being treated in today’s society. They  lost their jobs based on the rent, economy and other things they can’t afford. He says ”They knock down a block and build buildings where they only give a few apartments to low-income people.” They start moving to places after Yankee stadium and start a new life.

Gentrification in neighbourhoods

In a New York times article written by Vivian Lee, Gentrification is defined as forcing lower class groups out of a neighborhood to accommodate a higher class group of people. This change that occurs in these neighborhoods are designed to invite people who are more financially advanced and stable, this due to the escalation in rent. Writer Vivian Lee states that in Brooklyn NY, landlords are renovating their apartments in an elaborate manner, raising the rent, as a way of forcing current lower class tenants out.Interestingly this article illuminates Gentrification and its very powerful impact on society. Embarking upon more research and investigation about Gentrification has gained my interest. This topic I believe affects lives in such a way that it will have a very profound effect on life as we know it currently as well as  for the future.

Drugs

According to Quil Lawrence(2014),Sarah Childress(2016) and

I don’t agree with Sarah and Maia’s article because i haven’t seen it myself  but i agree with Quil Lawrence’s article because some people will do anything for drugs. I see it at the subway all the time, people selling junks from one cart to the other but they later on invest that money in drugs instead of something beneficial for their children and families.

DRUGS

Drugs has spread out in the United States Of America.According to Bossman (2017), some addicts have boldly come out to share their story of how drugs has put them in certain situations. Katie is one of the people who were addicted to drugs. Katie did anything possible to buy drugs, she had sex with a lot of men and also stole her mother’s jewelries just for drugs. In the article she says “I haven’t even been doing enough to get really high,” she said. “I’m just maintaining myself so I don’t get sick” means even though she is an addict there are some limitations to her addiction by not getting sick which is one of her reasons for being on drugs.

Lack of Funding for drug clinics

Drug addiction has increased in the United States but rehabilitation assistance and help has not. Most politicians don’t view drug addiction as an illness rather they view it as a self driving choice.  The article “Inside a killer Drug Epidemic: A look at America’s Opioid Crisis” (2017) highlight the lack of funding in Utah, Salt lake city. “People call every day and say, ‘Do you have an opening?’” Ms. Dolan said. “We don’t have any money to pay for medication-assisted treatment, and we don’t have prescribes to provide treatment.” (79) Also addressed in “On the campaign trail in NH, heart break over heroin addiction”(2016) There are treatment available the epidemic has become so big that there is usually a waiting list or the organization isn’t funded enough which leads to the death of addicts due to the fact that they can’t get help.(PBS,25-28) With the views of how people are dealing with this epidemic it is clear that some thing needs be done. The idea of drug addiction needs to be highlighted and taking more seriously. Every year the drug epidemic increases and it is pushed to the back end of health investments. Drug addiction isn’t viewed as a disease it is viewed a self driving choice and it is unfair that evidence has shown how much it has effected people lives and nothing is being done.

Credible Article: Inside a Killer Drug Epidemic

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/06/us/opioid-crisis-epidemic.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FPrescription%20Drug%20Abuse&action=click&contentCollection=timestopics&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=6&pgtype=collection&_r=0

The link listed above will direct you to the article “Inside a killer Drug Epidemic” by Julie Bosman. The main idea deals with how opioid use is consuming Americans. Opioid overdose has gradually become what feels like the worst drug crisis in American history. As of 2015 heroin killed more than 33,000 people, and because of this America feels like this epidemic is almost inescapable. Unfortunately, these mass killings exceeded gun homicides.

This article is credible because it was published on The New York Times, Which is a popular source that has won over 117 Pulitzer Prizes and is still privately owned and reviewed by many people before articles are published. Julie Bosman is a political reporter that received a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2001 from The University of Wisconsin. She has worked with The New York Times for over 15 years.

Credible Article: How do cartels get drugs into the US?

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34934574

The link above will connect you to newspaper article “How do cartels get drugs into the US?” Drug overdose in the U.S. is a big problem.  Annually it kills more people than car or gun accidents. Many of these illegal drugs keep coming from overseas. There is a discussion going on about the idea of building the wall on the south border with Mexico. Some politicians think that this wall will help us to reduce the amount of illegal drugs that are smuggled into the U.S. territory. This article provides information about large volume of cocaine traffic on the south borders and explains the ways of how illegal drugs are delivered into our country. However it does not blame any political party or leader for passive actions. The article was published on BBC.com  or British Broadcasting Corporation that is the one of the most trustful and world’s oldest broadcasting organizations.  Four experts shared their views on the problem. Three of them represent the U.S. Government services and another one is the Associate Professor at Yale University.
