Gentrification in neighbourhoods

In a New York times article written by Vivian Lee, Gentrification is defined as forcing lower class groups out of a neighborhood to accommodate a higher class group of people. This change that occurs in these neighborhoods are designed to invite people who are more financially advanced and stable, this due to the escalation in rent. Writer Vivian Lee states that in Brooklyn NY, landlords are renovating their apartments in an elaborate manner, raising the rent, as a way of forcing current lower class tenants out.Interestingly this article illuminates Gentrification and its very powerful impact on society. Embarking upon more research and investigation about Gentrification has gained my interest. This topic I believe affects lives in such a way that it will have a very profound effect on life as we know it currently as well as  for the future.

Hi Deidre! I’m happy to see this article has sparked an interest. It’s important to note that the focus here is on real estate and gentrification. If you’re interested in a lit review that is focused on this issues, you’d want to narrow your search to include these terms. A search focused on real estate, gentrification, raising rents might help you find a particular problem worth researching and exposing.
