How writing and empathy similar?

As we discussed earlier during our class the definition of empathy can be narrowed to a special tool that people use to find a solution to any problem. Another words, empathy is an action that allows us to switch places with other people and realize their problems. Writing is a tool too. When we write about something on our blogs we share our thoughts with the whole world. We try to find a solution by providing an impact on people’s mind through the power of words. Same thing with the empathy.

What is the value of empathy?

Empathy is an important tool to find a solution to any problem. It gives us the possibility to realize what is other people experience. We all should agree that our world has deficit of empathy. Especially if we look at the most recent politic decisions. It looks like recent reforms focused on majority of citizens who already have strong protection. Thus the most vulnerable people like refugees become less protected because our politicians do not use empathy as a tool.

Do you ever feel like something is so close yet so far? That is how it is like with writing and empathy. Writing and empathy are two different things but some similarities that writing and empathy hold are significant to people’s everyday lives. There are multiple reasons why writing and empathy can be connected. Writing is a way people express themselves through words written down. Empathy is the way people understand each other and have a way of connecting to each other as well. Since writing is how some people express themselves, empathy shows relevancy in this because in order to write and express, one should take in consideration of, if not all, most people’s point of views. This way there can be less argument and more connection. If one is writing, there is also reading, the writer should consider the audience, the reader, their point of view when the writer is writing. The writer should not just write from their view but also think about how the reader might feel about what they are writing, it could be offensive or not the same style of thinking.

Empathy is valued at a very high cost, without empathy, many things would not be important. Let us say that someone’s family member has passed away and you offer your condolences, that condolence can mean nothing if you do not understand how that person is feeling. It is just like lying, you can say something, promise something, but if you do not hold up to it, it means nothing at all. Here is where empathy comes in and adds meaning, value, to anything at all. Showing empathy to a person versus showing sympathy to a person is different, empathy is viewed as a high cost something like money. Empathy is like one million dollars, but sympathy is like one-hundred dollars. Showing someone you care and understand versus just telling them is something, is significant and it can change the way people look at things and their actions.

Empathy and writing go hand in hand, this is because you can’t have good writing without empathy. Empathy is the understanding of someone else’s emotions, understanding why someone else is acting the way they are. Writing is similar to empathy because in a person’s writing they need to include a “why” and a “how” to make the writing stand out. Writing becomes dangerous when that writing includes a topic that the author does not fully understand and that is where empathy comes in. this is the reason why journalists go undercover, or interview sources to get their information because they want it to be accurate and to fully grasp the situation at hand.

Empathy isn’t only important in writing but it is important for all of humanity. Without empathy people wouldn’t take the time to understand each other. People wouldn’t care for what others are going through. We can see this in psychopaths where they show no remorse due to the lack of empathy.

Writing and empathy can be similar in many forms. When a person writes, they are putting their feelings into words in a way they normally can’t do when they are speaking out loud. When reading a piece of writing, a person can visualize, understand and feel what the writer is feeling. A persons writing puts the reader in a situation where the reader feels a connection with them and can visually put them in their shoes. This will cause the reader to feel empathy for the writer of the piece they are reading.

Empathy is valuable for various reasons. For example, if someone is dealing with a certain hardship, they will not want to surround themselves around someone who brushes off their feelings because they do not understand where they are coming from. Rather, they will want to be around someone who has been through what they are going through, someone who understands the issues they are facing. Empathy gives comfort to one who is going through their hardships so they feel like they aren’t alone.

Writing is the process to deliver an idea to the reader in order to leave an impact. Empathy is the understanding of one’s feeling in order to communicate while maintaining and considering their feelings. Empathy is an essential tool in writing and presenting a solution or in writing by allowing a better understanding of the problem. Writing and empathy both play an important role regarding a person’s feeling in order to impact them or deliver a message. Empathy allows the writer to understand how the reader feels in order to offer an effective message that would impact the reader giving the sense of understanding to how the reader feels.

Writing and empathy are similar in the way that they both reflect on how you are feeling. Writing is the way people reflect on their feelings and put their take on the topic into writing. Empathy is putting yourself in the person’s shoes and basing how you would feel if that was you in the situation. They both come from a deeper place of feelings and emotions.

It bases your decisions and judgment from your point of view instead of someone else’s. Empathy makes you feel the emotions more deeply since it is happening to you. Empathy helps you have a deeper connection with the problem.

In writing, empathy is important so that readers can put themselves in other people’s shoes.  Without empathy, people would do things to hurt others, without thinking of how the other person may feel.

The value of empathy is that in order to solve real world issues we have to understand them. Without empathy, no one would feel like they have to come up with solutions to problems. If a person can’t understand a problem, they won’t know how to fix it. One example of the value of empathy is providing institutions for people who have mental illnesses and diseases. There are people who go to school to study and learn about these illnesses. They become educated to provide different help such as counseling. Without their knowledge they might not feel like they have to provide help for these people who suffer every day.

When writing in any kind of way, you are most likely giving either your opinion or facts. When writing in a blog where multiple people can read it, the writer tends to think about the topic thoroughly before posting so that they can minimize the number of negative comments or arguments. So writing is similar to empathy in this way by having the person think about the topic from viewpoints that differ from their own. Another thing is that when people are writing things such as poems or personal essays that give their raw feelings. This gives readers the ability to have empathy toward the writer when reading their work. Empathy is something that is definitely rare in the world we live in today. But with something that it is rare, it also makes it valuable. Empathy gives a person the ability to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and understand their emotions, feelings, and points of view. As a human being, many of us are subject to tunnel vision; empathy is one way that you thoroughly understand a position that another person is in. Not many people are able to understand empathy, which makes it rich in a person’s character.
