Gentrification Article

The article listed above defines gentrification as a fundamental political process. This article explains that there is a “double movement” between the neighborhoods of Harlem and Prenzlauger Berg, Berlin. Both are being impacted negatively by the market economy, and the relation between public policies and gentrification is unstable. This articles makes me want to know more about why the public policies are allowing these neighborhoods to have a higher poverty rate and how they plan to fix it.

I want to know what it means for a relationship between policies and gentrification to be unstable? Does that mean we can’t predict the impact policy will have on gentrification? I love the idea of a paper that focuses on the economic problems around gentrification WORLD WIDE. Are there other countries you can look into that are “gentrifying?” Also, maybe other countries are doing it for other reasons, and therefore have other potentially damaging consequences?
