Empathy

Writing is the process to deliver an idea to the reader in order to leave an impact. Empathy is the understanding of one’s feeling in order to communicate while maintaining and considering their feelings. Empathy is an essential tool in writing and presenting a solution or in writing by allowing a better understanding of the problem. Writing and empathy both play an important role regarding a person’s feeling in order to impact them or deliver a message. Empathy allows the writer to understand how the reader feels in order to offer an effective message that would impact the reader giving the sense of understanding to how the reader feels.

Writing and empathy are similar in such a way that they both lead you to a situation in which you connect your thoughts, sensations, and emotions to someone’s, in order to understand the person’s feelings. Both writing and empathy enable us to experience and feel part of the whole. In writing and empathy, we leave ourselves and enter another, to put words to their thoughts, sensations, and emotions. They both put us in a position where we reason, share, and adopt the perspective and the emotional state of another person.

Hi Olivia! You’ve got an interesting way of answering this question– you define one, then the other, define another aspect of one and then another aspect of the other. It works in showing you have a clear sense of empathy and writing, but I wanted to hear more about how empathy is “a tool” in writing. How does it work? How does it lead to a solution?

I’m looking forward to hearing more from you this semester!
